Working as a freelance saxophonist, and as a retail rep, I have begun to question the integrity and quality of Selmer saxophones. Selmer manufactured the Mark VI, of which about 50% play well (or so it seems) and then never really cranked out a quality product. I was recently given the opportunity to play the new YAMAHA `Z` alto saxophone and was blown away by its sound, intonation, control and key work. Additionally, my horn is a Keilwerth SX90R tenor which seems to blow all the Mark VI`s out of the water.
It`s possible that my style of playing is not suited for a Selmer horn, but it`s also possible that Selmer is nothing more than a name.
Your thoughts please!
