the difference between the wood and the nonwood is supposed to be quality of the sound, and other things like that. I really think that wood sounds beautiful if you have a great experienced player, but the oboe I have now isn`t wood and I sound just as good as the gurl who plays the wood. So I think that the difference is cost and how much care you need to take with it. Wood is harder to care for and plastic or whatever isn`t as much. ( less cracking) Hope I answered what you were asking.
