I`m confused....I`m shopping for a clarinet for my daughter...I know to get wood...however..what is the difference between a Leblanc Normandy L4, a Leblanc Noblet paris and a Selmer Signet 100...what do I do...what do I look out for...ebay has many to choose from...and I don`t want to make a mistake..however I cannot spend a fortune...if someone has some guidance, I would appreciate it. Thanks

I wouldnt buy a used clarinet, especially off ebay.. It will most likely have been played by someone before you buy it... Depending on if that person was stupid, you could end up with something disgusting.

My band teacher told me that at the school he used to teach at, there was one tuba that hadn`t been used for a really long time. One day he took it down, and when he opened the case, he almost threw up because of this reeking smell of garlic. Turns out that the kid that had played that tuba liked garlic sandwiches, and whenever he played, the tuba would get more and more garlicky. They had to get rid of the tuba because no one could play it, without throwing up. The same would apply with buying a used clarinet.

In my school band, they always tell us to rinse our mouth out before we play, or brush our teeth if possible, because, almost everything people eat has some sugar in it, that sugar stays in your mouth, and when you blow into the clarinet, that sugar comes out and goes into the clarinet. This causes mold, and if you accidentally inhale through the clarinet, all that mold will go into your mouth, and make you sick. If the person your buying this clarinet from was careless and ate whatever and blew it all into the clarinet, then that would be bad.

So just keep that in mind when you are buying any instrument that involves the mouth. Sorry if this was a pointless email, didnt exactly answer anything that you had.
