In reading some of your comments on the stainer violin i have one and i am wondering if it is an original or not. on the inside it states jacobus stainer in abfam - prope oenipontum 1660 - nemer hornsteiner in mittenwald - repaired by m. svedal - 1917. i looked in the computer under hornsteiner to see if he was a person that made violins but could not find anything in regards to this - can anyone help me.

Try this site, it is the Smithsonian, and there is a link in there to a list of authenticators and appraisers by state.
