I`ve been playing the violin for the past year. Im not the greatest but seeing that i basically tought my self, its not too bad( I live in the Caribbean). I want to learn how to "trebel or tease" the strings. I do it my own way but it looks different when I see viloinst on tv in concert,, they all do it the same way, I`d like to learn.

Do you mean use vibrato?

If you do mean use vibrato, you shouldn`t learn until you`re completely confident in 1st and third position (and ideally you should know a little 2nd, 4th, and 5th). If you haven`t shifted at all yet, then you should learn that first. Vibrato involves changing the pitch slightly, and will throw your intonation off if you aren`t that sure of it to begin with.

That said, if you think you are ready for it, hold your left hand up in the air and let the fingers curve a bit. Rock it back and forth, slowly and rhythmically. This is the motion you will use for vibrato. Immediately stop using your version, it will only confuse you. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.
