yanagisawa? sounds like somthing chinese to me. jupeter makes really good horns, an L.A`s are some of the best i have played. somone told my that the yanagisawa (especialy 9930) has really bad intonation, needs constant repair, and over all just sounds (and looks) awful. could someone who has played some of these sax`s give some advise, i havent had a chance to play any of these, i think they are all to high dollar for me

I love jupiters, I am primarily Clarinet and Tenor sax but I own a jupiter alto sax and I know several universitys in my area that insist you have a jupiter if you wish to major in alto sax in their programs. I would say go for the jupiter. and DO NOT pick anything because of it`s looks!!!!!! I can not stress that enough the thing could look like S**T and still play really well.

Hey, I`ve never played a LA sax or a jupitor, and havn`t seen one either. I assume thier decent though. Yangisawas have a good reputition, I havn`t played or heard one either. Looks don`t matter. The best sax in the world is the Selmer Mark VI, made in the fifties and sixties, and they look quite bad now. My recomended brands are Selmer, Kielworth, or Yamaha.

Stay away from new selmers. Jupiters are the best saxs made now a days, in my opinion. If you know anything about clarinets this will make sence but around here they are R-13 of the sax world.

Note; new selmers, not older ones. But, then agian, the origional poster said he had an opertunity to purchase a jupitor, yangisawa, or LA sax, not the brands I mentioned. Sorry, I missed that part.

I can tell you don`t like selmers. Why? they are the origional sax makers, the horns are great. Bundys aren`t the best, but make fine durable marching horns, and in my younger days I made clinics with them. so, can yo tell us why you don`t like selmer, the best brand in the world?

I have never once had a good experience with selmer or it`s branch companys. I have owned three brand new clarinets from them, and 2 saxophones. One of the clarinets came cracked, then I sent it back then next one was missing three pads, and I sent that one back the next one was missing a spring. After that I went and bought another (I now have 2) buffet r-13. Then the one selmer sax had a hole in it from poor manufacturing. they never seeled a part of the metal and there was a whole in th actual sax. Then with my selmer tenor two of my corks fell off as soon as I greased them because they were not glued on properly. I also have had some bundys. No seriouse falling apart issues they are just poor quiality in general.

Thanks Jen, now I have a question. Does is your selmer supplier supplied by just one factory? I don`t know, but if there are multiple Selmer factories, then perhaps yours is a Real bad one.??? just a thought. also, this doesn`t happen as much anymore, but in earlier times, people would post false brand names on saxes ect. ?? any thoughts Jen?

I bought my sax`s and clarinets through a very very reputable dealer that I have never had any other problems with beside these selmers. After the 2nd clarinet I actually asked for one from another company. It didn`t help. I have never been impressed with them ever.
