hey peoples. I have a slight problem. I play the flute, in grade 9, and i allways thought that i would get the same marks as another flute player in my class, cause i thout that we were the best, and that our marks wouldn`t change much. Well they did. My friend got a 97% and i got 96%. I know that it`s nothing really to make a deal out of but it is. my freind got braces, and she sucked at playing so i thought good, cause i would be the better one. Then my freind gets her very good tone back, and the band teacher made everyone in our small band class clap for her for the millionth time. I allmost started to cry. I feel like i am a failure, with a stupid tone and everything. I hate it! My tone sucks when I go higher, and I hate when I play the flute in band now, cause all of the music is easy, and i don`t feel like people like me to play anyway. My friend gets to play the piccolo, and so many things. I just get to play my flute (I love it but i keep on feeling like people hate me playing it anyway).
Can someone please give me advice or something to help me be once again better like i was before?

i just say, i wouldn`t worry about it. just practice really hard. why don`t you see if you can both play piccolo? i don`t really think the piccolo is that important unless it`s all you can play. they never sound, to me, like they have very good tone. if you don`t have a flute tutor, i suggest you get one. they can always help with tone. just practice how you always practice tone....long notes, for nice long periods of time. practice the notes and octives of whatever you can`t get that great. I really hope that I helped. Flutes are good anyways, it doesn`t matter who gets the piccolo. our second flute, during concert season, get`s to play the piccolo instead of the first, so it`s not necessarily who`s better. and our bassoonist is the one who plays the picc during marching season. so you see, just practice, and good luck!!!
