I`m a new clarinet player and as you`ll see from this post I don`t know an awful lot about music .............. sorry if this is a really stupid question ...........
I`ve got a lot of midi`s with a flute lead on my pc and have a software programme that allows me to change the key up or down in semi tones.
I know that in order to play the notes written for the flute on my clarinet I need to change the key but I don`t know what I should change it to !!!
Can anyone help me please ??
Should I change the key up or down a semi tone or two ??? - the programme only gives the option to change in semi tones rather than actual key signatures as such.
I guess what I`m really asking is ..........
in order to get the same sound what`s the relationship between a clarinet and flute in semi tones ???
Or doesn`t it work like that ???
Thanks
Sue

If the flute or other C instrument is playing the song in the key of c (no sharps or flats), then Bb clarinet is in the key of d (two sharps). If flute in key of D, clarinet in key of E, and so on and so forth.
