Jessie, please get your facts right!

In my original post, I quoted what you said the BAND DIRECTOR said. My only comment that related directly to that was :

"Although this is often heard, usually from people who have never given a second instrument a SERIOUS try, but it is far from true."

That was a comment on the BAND DIRECTOR`S pessimistic statement. I never made any statement about YOU, let alone a negative one.

You are imagining things which did not happen, and all the subsequent dialogue has been based on your incorrect imaginings.

I have no bone to pick with you. All I did was comment on a statement BY YOUR BAND DIRECTOR. I don`t even have a bone to pick with him - only on STATEMENT you report him as saying. Nothing personal at all!

I just pointed out that he was somewhat misguided in this statement (as quoted above). I backed up my assertion with examples from my own experience, that of Galway, and other capable doublers. Other forum members have backed me up also.

I just don`t know what you are on about. Rational communication seems impossible with you.

Perhaps I could understand this situation a little better if you told me your age. That may change my expectations re rational communication.

You know what, I am just not going to fight with you anymore. I have re-read my posts and agree that I am a bit too rash with my statements...I do not agree with some things said, but I will not fight with you anymore, I hate forum fights-I speak out against them and here I am, fighting when I really dont want to. I will apologize for any miscommunication and grief and set things right...Arak, although we didnt agree on this matter, I hope that nothing more will come of it...
I do not like to give out my age, but I will say I am my late teens and sometimes prone to be melodramatic. I apologize and hope `rational communication` is possible now! And, personally, I think my director doesnt really know what he is doing, so I cannot verify the truthfullness of his statements.

What does it have to do with age? I think that Jessie said had some very logical things to say. Sorry Arak, but I am not one of those board members that backs you up on this one.

No offense, but you did and do come off as being a bit condescending in your posts.
You do have a lot to offer which is wonderful, but it is the way in which you say it that perhaps makes others feel this way.

It is obvious that this is getting no where, so for the sake of harmony maybe we should just leave it at that?

I back up Arak; Jessie was out of line first.

tehehe.

Oh ya! To answer the FREAKING original question...
I agree (to a large extent) that doubling
is good, but I think that certain
instruments are more exclusive than
others. To be specific on this case, trumpet and
flute should be totally fine together.

Much love,
Jonny

"And, personally, I think my director doesnt really know what he is doing, so I cannot verify the truthfullness of his statements."

That is more or less what I said, giving some valid back-up for my statement that hat he said was indeed untrue - a negative and wild generalisation not based on fact. I reiterate, I said nothing negative against you, and not even the band director, only his statement.

We seem to have have reached some sort of agreement here.

Thank you Jessie, for your honesty. My respect for you has increased manyfold.

`Comment`, alias ****, it seems that you are just a big time stirrer, a destroyer of anything of worth in this forum, by your twisting of what is written and its intention. Bad, bad news! I am waiting for you to give any specific about what was wrong with my original post, and you have not come up with the goods.

Perhpas you would consider remaining silent until you have something of worth to say, for the good of everybody. If not, then perhaps you could explain WHY not.

>Zylom, what are you like 10 or something? Who cares!

My apologies if I came across as judgmental , but my post was meant in a light hearted spirit; thus the numerous s and "tehehe"s.

I do, however, stand by the second part of my post about doubling.

Finally, you may want to work on your punctuation. I guess this what we are to expect from someone named "Grow Up!"

Lol. At first, you made me a little sad, but now you`re making me laugh.

Take care,
Jonny

Hi. actually playing multi-instruments issnt a bad thing. but you must have the motivation and the hunger to want to do so. if your mind is set, nothing is impossible. personally, im a french horn and a saxophone player. same like you, im getting a flute soon cause i have always liked it since young but never had a chance to play. now i have a chance now, ill be more than happy to grab it and start learning straight away. you must want to do it yourself and not for otheres.

about the embusher (however you spell it) thing, i personally feel that it is not negative. in fact after playing the saxophone, my french horn tone improved tremendously. by doubling instruments, i concluded that the first instrument you learn will be the hardest. following that will be much easier. reason being that you have already built up your diaphram (however you spell it), learnt music theories and have total control over dynamics and articulation. when you pick up a second instrument, the only thing you need to learn is how to produce the sound and the fingerings and thats it. the rest comes with experince.

also, moving from a brasswind to a woodwind is much easier than vice versa. imagine a person playing the tuba trying to play the flute. now try imagining a person playing the flte trying to play the tuba. now thats different.

thanks guys i think im definately gona take up the flute. i do want to learn the instrument, ( it is so different to the trumpet!)
my trumpet forum suggested to forget everything i know about the trumpet while playing flute and vice versa.
iv had a go on my friends flute..i got several descent notes so i think i got a bit of a head start..except at first i was buzzing over the flute but i think i wont do that anymore.
SO...should i self learn of the net n books n stuff or should i bother getting a proper teacher. i also want to purchase a flute..seeing as i know nothing bout them.........you guys could gime a few pointers
thanks again

OK after seeing plenty of opininated stuffs here I have to say depending on how long you`ve been playing(if only a beginner don`t play flute right now) but once you are more experienced you can start to learn flute if you wish. I won`t mess you up with practice. I main;y play flute and picc., but I have learned clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and some others. It just depends on how long you have been playing is all.

"My respect for you has increased manyfold".
Thank you and I am glad to say the same-I have learned from this thread and will not forget easily.
Arak, I believe we have some things in common (our bullheadedness, for example)(that was meant in the best possible way) and that good things can become of us respecting the other.
