First of all vibrato is an extra `thing` added to music to give it style. Basically vibrato is concentrated air moving in a wave shape from the embachure/diaphram. If you take lessons or can ask a music teacher I`m sure they would be able to tell you exactly what to do. Or you could do a search online. I discovered vibrato naturally. It makes music beautiful but sometimes isn`t used because the style of music. I`m sure if you don`t understand this someone else can explain it better but basically just concentrate in making your air wavy(if that makes sense).

There are 4 different methods of vibrato that I know of for wind instruments. The most common one is jaw vibrato, used mostly on reed woodwinds and brass. Slide vibrato is used on trombones, and arm vibrato can be used for any brass instrument. Diaphragm vibrato can be used on pretty much any wind instrument, some better than others.

For flutes, you would use diaphragm vibrato, which involves producing short, rapid pulses in your air stream. It doesn`t really change the pitch of the note; rather, it changes the intensity of the note, producing a vibrato effect.

I hope that made a little sense, and that you learned something from it.

Cheers,

Thomas
