While Arak has some very good points regarding the inline or offset G issue, I too think that in is more on the lines of what a person is comfortable with.
I have to say that I for many years I played on in line flutes. It was just by pure accident that I bought my last flute with an offset G. That is all the company had at the time, so I thought that I would just plug up the hole on it in the mean time just when trying them out. I hated it at first. After about a week of playing on the offset, I was in heaven. I hated trying to play my other flute with the in line G after that.
I do however have a bit of a problem tying to play on some brands of flutes that have a more offset G than others. When I was trying to make my final decision between a Powell or a Miyazawa, I found that the Powell was much more comfortable for me because the offset G was not as offset as it was on the Miyazawa.
A good friend of mine has long fingers and he hates trying to play on an offset.
