Hi. I have been playing flute for 4 years and quite frankly I think I suck. At least compared to the other flutes in my class. I am a wimp! I hate playing out and when I do I sound ok I guess. My band director said that when I do play I sound great. I know I should just suck it up and play out but I feel my tecnique could use some tweaking first. Got any advice?

Sounds like you just need to build up your confidence a bit.
If you don`t have a private flute teacher, then I highly suggest that you look into one. It will help you out a lot.

It is better to play out with confidence even if you are hitting a wrong note, then not to be heard at all. Good luck to you!

only problum is I never get a chaqnce. I am so far behind and we cant find a good privet turtor. I think I suck and everyone else thinks I sound good. If I play out then I sound horrible. I think that its my ambasure or something I dont know. Thanks for the advice.

Embousure counts MAJORLY. If you think you suck, and the people around you think you sound great, then, why is it that you think you suck. What is the problem. Too airy, high notes not coming out right, or maybe that you get nervous and can`t think of the notes? Man, did I have a problem like that before. My solution was that I look into my problems I thought I had. Attitude was the HUGE adjustment for me. Another thing is, that on high notes, I some how go into a slightly different embousure somehow. I think it is natural or instinct? Hm, anyways. Hope that you can have more confidence in yourself.

hey - if you`re a flute player isn`t embouchure completely individualistic anyway ? on a count of that on a flute you make the sound with your lips directly, and no two people have exactly the same lips - so whatever embouchure works for you is great - don`t think there is a right and wrong way to play flute
