Just a place to discuss our gigs, stage fright and the like (or close to the like).

Tonight is only my third time playing in front of people and it`s expected to be around 800 as my band is opening for the `80s rock band Asia. I`m white as a ghost. How do I get myself into these things?!

Last night we played to about 25 people and I was jittery (sounded like a soft vibrato). I just hope I remember to inhale tonight.

Pray for me!!!!

I meant "third time playing FLUTE in front of people". I`m an experienced performer/singer, just relatively new at the flute.

How did it go snotjello? Always remember that in all likelyhood, you can play better than anyone that is listening to you. You obviously have a lot of talent since your band is doing what it is doing. Good Luck!!

Thanks.

Yeah, it went pretty well. Being a relative beginner, much of the fluting I do with the band is a lot of flash, just remembering to finish or hold on a correct note, so to the average non-fluter I can give the impression of being better than I really am. I do take it seriously, though, and I was pretty pleased with last night`s result. When I get nervous, I sometimes blow too hard and jump up to the higher octave; I only did that once, but I did a little trill and some flashy stuff and made it sound intentional.

We played four flute songs:

• Nights in White Satin (big flute solo) - The Moody Blues
• Dust in the Wind (a duet with the violinist) - Kansas
• 2 originals.

The crowd was about 800 so it was pretty exciting. I`ve broken the ice on fluting in front of a big crowd now, so it should come a little easier. I like some nervousness, though. It means you care about doing well.

The guys in Asia were standing backstage where I could see them during our set, which was pretty cool because a lot of headliners disappear when the opening band is on. They were very complimentary, which was neat. They`re great. Their sound check went a little long, so we didn`t have as long to check. They were really apologetic; "Sorry mate. We`ll be out of the way right soon."

I was like, "Hey, don`t apologize to us. You`re Asia! We`re just honored to be here."

It was a blast.

Does anyone have the sheet music for Nights in White Satin? I`m playing in a concert (flute trio) and we would love to play that song. None of us can find the music so if anyone can help let me know and i`ll give you my e-mail address.

Not me. I play by ear. Sorry.

I`ll help you look, though...

The referenced sites appear to give the chords, which will help a guitar player, but probably not a young flute player who is used to having note-to-note music for the melody.

I really didn`t even look at them. I thought it was a recipe for pizza sauce.
