I`m a college student here in Buffalo. Of course I do play the flute. I have been playing for a little over 8 years. I still play, but I do miss talking with other flutists. If any of you young flutists have questions, I`ll be happy to answer them.

I was wondering if you know where I could find the flute parts to Dave Matthews on the internet? I have been playing the flute for 4 years and would like to play this music with a guitarist for fun. Thanks,
Jane

Jane,
I wish I could help you on that, but I`m still trying to find some music myself. Did you ever try and go into a sheet music store? They might have what you`re looking for if you can`t find anything on the internet.

You could try http://www.sheetmusicplus.com They have a very wide range of music. Or http://www.justflutes.com. It`s a UK company but they do ship overseas if necessary.

Tami,
You should have stayed with it for a bit longer. It may be a pain in the ass in the beinging, but everything does pay off in the end. Its worth it to keep going and not quit. I have now worked my way up to an open holed flute. I`ve been playing on the open holed flute for a couple of years now. When I first was learning, I wanted to give up because I literally had to relearn how to play and hold the flute and that was difficult. But, I never gave up.

i agree w/ Kathy-the flute is one of the most easiest and sophisticated instruments-so yes I would have to say that yooh should`ve stayed longer...

It takes time and work Tami. You can`t be James Galway overnight.
If you really wanted to learn but felt you couldn`t then I`d suggest either getting a more inspirational teacher or find a book and lock yourself in your room for a few hours/days (that`s how I got started. When I came out I managed to play a three octave chromatic scale [just!]). As already mentioned... it`s all worth it in the end and if you`re committed you`ll learn quickly.

I agree with Penny. It does take a lot of time and practice in playing the flute. You have to set aside so much time in the day to practice everything. No one can really be like James Galway. But, with time, effort and a very good teacher you can make it there in no time.
