what is a SY-5 headjoint? does anyone have any detailed information on it, what is it comparable to

This is a custom shop series french (open hole) Gemeinhardt Professional Flute Model XBI. This model features a solid silver head, foot and body with silver plated keys. The SY-5 custom head joint is hand cut for a perfect fit and finish for greater tone.

Your kiddig right? A custom Gemeinhardt? Lol!! They will try and tell you anything these days to sell flutes. How sad... I would sure love it if Gemeinhardt would put a list on their website of the so called professionals that play on these flutes. After all, they call them professional flutes, right?

I think all Gemeinhardt solid silver headjoints say "Custom" on them. I have a "custom" model J.

Each letter designation on a Gemeinhardt headjoint designates the type of cut the headjoint has. I couldn`t find a description of S Model features (it`s either really old or new), but here are their current ones:

Gemeinhardt Headjoints

H Model
The result of research focusing on the degree angles of the front and back walls of the embouchure hole. Well suited for the beginner but the rich dynamic and tonal palette will please any professional.

J Model
Offers the least resistance of any of our headjoints. It provides extremely quick response of the low register while retaining a free-blowing upper register.

K Model
Offers the most resistance and as a result provides a sound which projects brilliantly. It`s extremely responsive in the low register and lends itself well to soft playing.

M Model
Produces a full, warm sound that is color-balanced throughout all of the registers without sacrificing the quickness of articulation in the lower register.

My apologies. I just get irritated with the way some websites portray flutes. Especially Gemeinhardt.
By the way, I think all the models from a 3SHB all say custom on the headjoints. I think this is just a way for Gemeinhardt to make you think that they have something special, when in reality they aren`t anything great.

I think Gemeinhardt doesn`t advertise their headjoints as "custom" anything as they`d probably get hit by a lawsuit, but a lot of used flutes ads make note that the headjoint is "custom". Which is really deceptive.

I found that S Model. It looks iike it must be new and since dynamics seem to be its strong point looks like Gemeinhardt may finally be offering a modern headjoint like everyone else... finally.

Model S
The S headjoint combines brilliance with a rich, dark sound and is capable of superb projection. The response is quick in all registers and extreme dynamic contrasts are readily achievable.

Piko, I notice that too all the time on ebay. "Custom headjoint" Lol!! It drives me crazy!
