I`ve played the flute for 10+ years and I just bought a piccolo a few weeks ago. Does anyone have any hints or tips that will help me to learn to play the piccolo better? I`m having a horrible time getting the upper register to sound! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

I find the higher notes easier. There is a site that I found really good, if I can get the link I`ll post it on here.

Not if you`re not in a band or anything. I know people who play flute but never piccolo. You don`t absolutely have to if there`s no need for you to or you just don`t want to, obviously.

Blow the air faster, through a smaller hole, and aim the air more accurately. Also, do not pull your lips tight against your teeth; rather, blow through a smaller hole by pressing your lips slightly closer together.

Thanks for all your help everyone! This is a great forum. I play flute in a church orchestra of about 30 people, at Lancaster Baptist Church in CA. I`ve never had any reason to play piccolo before, but just recently I`ve been thinking it would be nice to add a piccolo to the songs that have a piccolo part written. My goal is to be able to play it well enough for the orchestra by January, but we`ll see how that goes....... Thanks again for all your help

i`d say you`ll be able to by jaunary... i pulled it off in a matter of weeks.. 2 weeks i believe was all i had... but i`ll tell ya, i practiced A LOT to be able to play all the notes in the matter of time that i had
