nah I play flute a bit but just to say I know how. NOt trying to be a troll though, just throwing out another opinion.

I think the main difference is that in a band there are alot more flutes. In our orchestra there is only one flutist, therefore she told me she feels important as she is the only one playing her part. She does love band though, as `they do better music`! I love playing in band or orchestra, though i mainly play violin in the orchestra, which is why there is only one flute. More flutes she play in orchestras! And band of course lol
