A band I`ve been playing in lately doesn`t have a picc --only one flute--so I`ve been playing the solo part on my sousaphone (okay, you can all stop laughing now).

I don`t play the pic (yet) but do play the penny whistle--do you think it would sound better if I played it on the penny whistle? It`s not always as clean as I`d like, particularly if it`s hot outside (it`s a marching/festival band).

Oh i finally got my hands on it! The high school band was playing it and it had the picc part written in with teh flutes and i got one of my friends to copy her sheet music, and now i have.

Warning: Its hard. i can do it slow, but its still really hard. Lots of practice!

i need the flute/picolo solo for stars and stripes forever. our district plays it for band-o-rama every year and this year im going to be one of the people playing the solo. i need it because i need a lot of practice. we have to memorize it in only 2 months and i dont think i will be able to. so im trying to find it and i couldn`t find it anywhere and some people say they have it. if you could help me or andything please send it to me i really need extra practice on it.thank you if you can help me! you can e-mail me at lildreamercloud2@aol.com. thanx alot!!

I also have a gemeinhardt open holed Flute that i got a couple months ago, and it is fantastic! I play piccolo too, but i am currently renting it and it is Yamaha ( more expensive, but also a great brand) anywho . . . im looking for the piccolo solo to Stars and Stripes forever . . as i see MANY of you girls are too. Hello i just got a piccolo probably about 4months ago and i have been playing the flute for bout 4yrs now and every time i play the piccolo it always out of tune i was wondering if anyone could help me out on that. I have good tone and intonation on my flute but when i play my picc it sounds crappy. Plzzz help.

In an effort to help you with your intonation problem on piccolo:
Flute isn`t exactly EASY to tune by any means, but Piccolo is BY FAR one of the hardest intruments to tune. I`ve been playing flute for 3 years, and piccolo for only about 8 months, but i am at a higher level on piccolo ( crazy, eh?) haha so anyways . . . When you tune it`d be really easy for your director to just yell out "SHARP - PULL OUT!" or "FLAT PUSH IN!" But you have to develope the ear for it, and you will eventually. So just listen when you`re tuning. Since piccs are so small, and short in length, you only have to pull out or push in a TINY bit at a time.

I`ve been playing piccolo for almost a year now. It is hard to keep it in tune. There are some notes that just come out sharp or flat, but the rest are fine. Once you figure out which notes come out bad, you can just roll the mouthpiece to you or away from you on those notes. It really helps!
