Okay the band conductor at my school chosed chester as one of are pieces to perform and I have to play piccolo the song goes all the way to a high F and every time I hit the c below it he tells me to play softer and I can`t because the piccolo he gave me is a metal piccolo and those are mainly used for marching band, but ever time I try to play softer the note won`t come out.

I hate it when band directors tell a piccolo player this. Just hand him the piccolo and say "here, you try it then."
It is bad enought trying to play a wooden piccolo very softly. It`s just not going to happen on a high F.

Please note that my comment is not to be taken seriously.
Here is what you should do next time. Play all your high notes as loud as possible, excessively loud if you can. That way when your director asks you to play softer, you can play the note how you would normally play it and it will sound softer and maybe if your director will leave you alone.
If it makes you feel any better once I had to play part of a piccolo concerto for a contest and the last note of the piece was a high F sharp that was held for about 8 measures at ppp. It was hard to get the ending to sound good, and it was really annoying practicing that part.
Hang in there

Snot replies:
That`s actually not such a bad idea. I`m a designer and illustrator by trade, and quite often I`ll create a piece that I think is as good as it can be, but I know the client will want to change something just to flex his/her authoritative muscle. So I intentionally put something in that`s so dramatically out of place that they feel pretty satisfied when they "catch it".
Same principle.

...it`s often a great way to handle any know-it-all, even in online forums.

Kara, I have actually done that to my director!!! Just ask if you can take it down an octave for the song. I have performed that song on the picclo, too, and LOVE it!!! What arrangement are you doing, may I ask?
