the selman black flutes look beautiful, but since nobody here speaks to highly of this brand, i was wondering if anyone knew of a decent brand of flutes that come in a black finish. I can`t seem to find much on google.

Sorry, but no GOOD flute is going to come in colors like that. If it is lacquered in some color, rest assure it is only a toy and total junk. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

Thanks...    20:59 on Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Isn`t it possible to get a good deal on good name-brands like Gemeinhardt on Ebay? I`m currently looking for a flute there, like an Emerson. I got a good flute from there in middle school, and it`s lasted quite a while and has served me well. I am hoping to get another flute soon for high school orchestra. Why are Ebay flutes so put-down? I can understand why Selmer flutes are no good.. but why ALL flutes from Ebay?

fluteygurl, it is the used ones that you have to be careful on ebay of. If you buy a new flute, often you won`t get a warranty on there like you would at a music store. But not all are bad. Just 99% of the used flutes I have gotten on ebay have been misrepresented and needed adjustments.

If you buy a cheap used flute and have to get it repadded, the repadding will probably cost you more than the flue. That is the risk you take. Also, some other problems like rust in pivots, or sloppy pivots, can cost just as much to correct as repadding.

You do run risks with second hand flutes on Ebay.
You also run risks with new flutes, which I highlighted in another thread - forgotten the name.

Perhaps that thread should be kept current, high in this forum, because questions about cheap Ebay flutes just don`t stop coming.
