Does anyone knows a good flute repair workshop, or course, near New York?
I have looked in the web and all I`ve found are either 3 year programs or one afternoon private clases (really expensive, by the way). I know I can`t learn these complex procedures in one afternoon, is just absurd; but I`m not planing to be a professional woodwind technician. So, I need some advise. Thanks.

How about for a start, buy a new book that has just come on the market. Many very experienced technicians, including some involved with training schools, are saying that this is by far the best text for technicians ever written.
"THE COMPLETE WOODWIND REPAIR MANUAL"
Available from "Online Store" at

Judging by what has been said about it, this book can probably teach you more than most technicians can.

BTW, if you want to get into servicing instruments seriously, get ready to spend a LOT of money on specialised tools, and pad and pivot screw (etc) stocks.

I have probably spent a bit more than the average technician, but there is still a lot of gear I would like and do not have. I have spent roughly US$60000, fro specialising in woodwind repair.
