Hi, I am kinda new at the flute world, i have only been playing for about half a year, and recently my old teacher has become unavailble (that`s most likely spelt wrong) and i was wondering if any of you guys (and girls) know how to find a teacher to help me learn. By the way, what i really would like to learn is the Jazz flute.

Try calling the local high schools in your area, colleges, universities, orchestras, etc. They would reccomend a teacher to you, or if you have a university or college nearby, you may be able to study with the flute professor. It would be difficult to find a teacher who specializes in Jazz Flute if you live in a smaller area, but you should learn standard flute technique and repertoire before you begin studying jazz techniques.

You could try finding a sax teacher. Many saxophonists play flute as well, so they would probably know a lot more about playing jazz than your ordinary flute teacher. It wouldn`t hurt to call a few sax teachers and ask if they would be willing to help you with playing jazz.

You can try the florida flute associations website--they have a few teachers listed in most areas. Near where in Florida do you live? I live in Florida also.

the florida flute associations website is <www.floridaflute.org>

also, try looking in your phone book under "music" and there is possibly a music store or repair shop that would reccomend someone to you, or some stores even have their own teachers.

and if that doesn`t work out, you can always try a google search for "flute" and then type in the name of your city--and maybe a flute teacher would have his/her studio webpage. Just keep looking, I`m sure you will find someone
