Hi I`m looking into buying a new piccolo, and I was wondering what BUDGET oriented GOOD Brands I could choose from. Keep in mind I`m not a profesional.

Thanks

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. "Budget" could run you anywhere from a few hundred for a good used student model to a few thousand for a very nice pre-professional model. Give us an idea of how much you can afford to spend and we`ll be able to give you a more narrowed-down response.

Emerson has a nice line of piccolo`s. If you are a student, I would highly recommend the all plastic model by Emerson. I play picc professionaly and it is good enough for me to use as my backup. (And I am REALLY picky!)

Unless you want to spend an arm and a leg and get a piccolo with intonation issues, I suggest you stay away from any of the Yamaha piccs.

Ive decided on the emerson ep3mh, plastic body, metal head. Eventually I will buy the plastic headjoint from fluteworld for 75$ so i`ll have both.

Good choice. Did you get to try all the brands out back to back?

I don`t know much about piccolos, but I`m an eleventh grader and a flutist, and I recently went to a regional competition and as a reward for doing well, my band director bought me a $2,500 BURKART piccolo and I like the plays. It`s easy to get a sound out of it as opposed to other brands. I`ve really enjoyed it.

Please clarify, did he buy the piccolo for YOU, or for the school, and you are the one who happens to play it...?

That would be a lot for a band director to spend for a piccolo for someone else

I just love the Boston Legacy piccolo. Wonderful little pic! I would rate it up there with the more professional lines like, Burkart for example. I actually think that the mechanism is more solid on the Emerson then on the Burkart Global line piccolo`s. You really can`t go wrong. A plus feature, if I am not mistake is that it also has solid silver keys, so they will last. The intonation is great on them also. (Unlike on Yamaha piccolo`s ) If you have a bit more money to spend, then the Bulgheroni and Burkart amongst others piccolo`s are also great. Hope that helps and good luck with getting a new piccolo.

Ugghhh!!! Sorry, once again, that is piccolos without the apostrophe. My grammar is atrocious, I apologize.

sorry i should tell you what kind of wood it is...it is iron wood... i was also wondering how often should i treat the wood, and when i am on trips is it okay to leave the piccolo hidden in my car, or do i need to take it in with me everywhere i go?
