Hey everyone! I just got braces, and I am struggling with getting a good tone now. Does anyone have any tips for me? Anything would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hey fellow braceface(just kidding). I had the same problem but just keep at it, you might feel a bit fed up at first if you cant get a good tone but just hang in. Make sure you cover your braces and teeth with your lips and continue to play to your hearts content. Even if it affects your flute playing now remember its worth it when you get them off not just that you look better but your tone will be sooooo much better.
Good luck

I had braces too, many years ago (or so it seems). Do lots and lots of tone practise, very slow studies etc and listen carefully to what you`re playing so that you can work out what adjustments you will need to make. Eventually it`ll become easier to make the adjustments.

Mrs C is correct, sometimes braces can actually help your playing as they force you to focus and play more relaxed.

I`m a flute with braces.
I got them August 2005.
I was angry at first because it ruined my flute tone for a week (and I had a major audtion coming up)
What got my flute tone good again was playing simple stuff!! No joke! Play simple music and then it will come back.

Some years ago I refused to have a brace on my bottom teeth because my dentist warned me it could affect my flute playing.
There was a girl at school who had one though, and though she had a few problems at first she seemed to be fine after a while, with a bit of practice. Just getting used to it.

When I first got braces and was playing the flute, it was hard. All that came out was mainly air. Well, I got used to it and after a while playing was just as natural as it had been before I had gotten braces. But then again, I only had braces on my top teeth. Well, you will get used to it. A fellow flute player of mine had braces on her top and bottom teeth and she got used to it. It should be fine.
