You know what, you are totally correct in saying that I am jealous. I am...I am in fact jealous for all those other kids whom don`t have that privilege to get a professional flute at the age of 12. I have seen College students go into music with just a student flute. I see it first hand everyday. Some of my students are lucky enough to even have a flute, let alone a professional one.

Yes, I was wrong to judge you by saying you throw money at your daughters feet, but you were wrong by judging me also and saying that it is immature of me. So if that is being immature, then I am sorry.

I have seen first hand more kids at the age of 12 and even older mistreat their flutes, then take special care of them. No, not all are like this, but more then less. So please, go ahead call me immature, whatever makes you feel better.

Well, Kara probably isn`t jealous, but I sure am!! I`ve had my flute for 35 years, not a ding on it, so I`ve obviously taken care of mine also.
Kim, or Shane, would either of you be interested in some sort of adopt-an-adult flute player program?? I can provide references from my five siblings that can attest to what a great sister I am. Of course, I do come with the baggage of a husband and four kids.
If that doesn`t work out, does anyone know where I can find an application for becoming one of Kara`s friends? She bought her friend a saxophone for Christmas!! How great is that?!

So because some kids don`t have the privilege to have a more expensive flute you have apparently taken an opinion that no kids should have one. Each and every time someone has come here talking about buying their kid a higher end flute you have made some kind of negative statement about it. You then claim it is your opinion and you have a right to your opinion....to bad it is a baseless opinion.

I have been reading these comments back and forth and now I am going to jump in. Kim, go on and keep defending yourself, in the process you are making yourself look more like a guilty parent. When making a statement that your daughter`s Drelinger headjoint is holder her back, expect to get comments in return. Calling a person immature or jealous because you disagree with them is not going to solve anything. Kara hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. Enough said.

Guilty of what? I did not say my daughters Drelinger was holding her back. It was my daughters teacher that said it. To be perfectly clear..her teacher said that it does not allow her the possibility of a range of colors across all ranges. She recommended that we look at getting a different headjoint.

No I agree it is not going to solve anything. But I also have a right to my opinion and my opinion is that Kara is very judgmental of young flutists and their parents if the flutist plays a flute that Kara has determined is too good for them without knowing anything about them or their abilities or level of responsibility.

LOL I don`t think that would be possible.
I wish it was...I am a single parent only trying to give my daughter what I feel she deserves. She works very hard. Is ranked 1st in her freshman class. She practices her flute at least 2 hours a night during the week and more on weekends and school breaks. As I said in another post she takes very good care of her flute.

I also serve on band boosters doing what I can to help those kids that don`t have the "advantages" that my kid has.

I am not independently wealthy. Can we say Tax Return LOL
