Hello to everybody
Do you know the reason why my left shoulder keeps on aching?
My problem is that I can`t play the flute too long...
Do I need to do something... I mean an X-ray for example?
Thanks,
Katie

Is it just when you play the flute because it might be a postural problem. You could
A) Watch yourself in the mirror whilst playing and try to correct your posture
B) Talk to your techer about helping you find a better position for playing
C) Get one of those headjoints that allows you to play the flute vertically which relly helps posture problems. Look at this http://www.flutelab.com/vertical/vertical.htm
or D) Go see a physiotherapist about it.
Hope this helps

Other suggestions:
1)Could be playing with the flute too across the body. THe foot joint shoud go out at about 45 degrees from the hips.
2)Could be holding your left arm too high.
3)I had an issue with my left shoulder aching chronically and discovered that it went away if I stopped sleeping on my stomach with my left arm underneath my head.

My teacher told me that it`s not a postural problem because I have a correct posture... First we also taught that maybe it`s my posture that cause my shoulder ache... He started observing me when I play and nothing... It`s not about the posture!
But I need to figure it out because I can`t play the flute too long (10 min)... I love playing flute but sometimes my shoulder ache hurts me too much so I need to put down my flute!
Bilbo, probably it`s also how I sleep heheheheh
Anyway, I`m doing a kind of X-ray on the end of January... So lets see....

I agree with Bilbo, the angle is probably wrong, you must be holding the flute parallel to your shoulders, the flute should be angled, as Bilbo said, at about 45 deg from the hips, the arms and shoulders should balance the flute, don`t lift your arms or shoulders and you should not get pain
