Hi, I`m a high school freshman and I play flute. I was just wondering... what is everyone`s opinion of marching band? Is it worth putting in all the extra time? I`m trying to decide whether I should join for next year.

Personally I hated marching band, but I know that there are a lot of people out there who love marching band (some to the point of borderline obsession). Give it a try though you`ll never know if you like it or not until you try it.

Most people don`t like it at first. I hated marching band when I first started because I was really bad and I always got yelled at, but later on as I improved I started to enjoy it. Next year I`ll really like it. You meet a lot of friends through it and it can really improve your social skills.

I absolutely loved marching band. Why? Who knows, but some of my best memories from high school were from marching band season. I think you should give it a shot. I personally feel like marching season is when a band begins to really bond and become a family.

Overall it is easy once you get the hang of it, but there will be challenges along the way. I had to learn 18 pages of drill in 1 day due to lots of rain outs in the course of a week. Talk about stress...bleh!
