As far as I know, the latter (assuming you meant Left 2 and 3, not Right, and with right little finger?). I`ve never considered playing it any other way!

If I played a note with standard fingering and it sounded sharp, I wouldn`t think about playing fingering for the note the octave below, rather I`d adjust my embouchure/airflow accordingly.

It could be a problem particular to your flute then you might get used to fingering D2 for D3 on it and when you change flutes it could sound strange and you`d have to learn to play fingering D3 properly.

Hi Renni,
Sorry, this has nothing to do with Flutes... I should move this post to the TV music Forum, but don`t know and you probably you would not see it.

I found in your profile that you enjoy The Phantom. I really love this musical.
I`m also learning (liric) sing(ing?) and we may perform one of the duets at the samll audition by end of the school year in June. It will probably be "All I ask for you". It is easy but one problem is that I do not fit well for the role of a young Tenor (just have a look at my present avatar). I preferred the role of the Phantom, but it`s very difficult, spanning a full 2 octaves and so very demanding on the voice, unless using amplification (I`m still against this). And even so.

Hi Jose Luis. That`s great. I went to see Phantom in London recently and it was brilliant (and the film version is one of my favourite films ever!). It must be good to have the opportunity to perform a Phantom of the Opera song.
I decided playing flute & piccolo in the Phantom pit orchestra would be my dream job when I went to see it - I`d never get bored of it!!

Ugggh Micron,
I got the numbers confused again. That was for D4...
The D always works fine with T23 D# for me. It may need some tuning adjustments but that`s a matter of knowing the flute and anticipating the tuning/tone parameters ahead of time.

D#3 is all fingers down.W/ R pinkey on D#

Now lately, I`ve been playing with E2 and think that it may sound a bit more in better tone with the C key cracked an ever so slight bit. But doing that trick in faster passages is not easy
