I love piccolo too. `Shining light of the orchestra` is a good description! But it can definitely also be a `lethal assualt weapon` when in the wrong hands and played badly! Or even when played well if it`s the notes are high and there`s someone sitting too near!

yea..iknow, no one likes the piccolo because it`s too loud. But i think it`s so pretty,.. there`s a senior in my school, and he is INCREDIBLE!! In this song..he played a highest c you could play on the pic..wow, it was in tune also. And he has incredible technique. All the bands i`ve been too..theband director always says negative things about the pic. ahhh..

and also, i sit right next to a pic player in band, yup..right in my ear. And that person is not a great player so...it's LOUD. well, not a good pic player...everything she plays is loud and out of tune..yea.

Want to talk about lethal? Try sitting BETWEEN the piccoloist and the Eb clarinetist. Both in the screechissimo register and neither in tune with the other. There are times it just makes my teeth hurt.

Yeah, I am a clarinetist by day and a flutist by night. I hate the Eb clarinet also. HAHHAHA...I starting writing out this piece for clarinet choir with an Eb, 8 Bb`s and 2 basses. When I looked over my score...the Eb clarinet didn`t have a single measure filled in! I pitched the Eb`s music in the trash! HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!

Clarinets can do a really good speaker feedback impersonation. Makes you want to drop your flute and protect your ears.

I`ve driven in my car listening to clarinet concertos, forgetting about it, and get caught off guard by sudden breaking... oh... it was just the concerto. lol.
