Hey! I LOVE simon on American Idol!! I think he's a good judge..why does everyone BOO him. I feel really sorry for him. Just because he tells the truth! I know he can't say anything in a nice way..but he speaks his mind. Paula says everyone's good..well, i know all the ppl in american idol must have some talent but still,..did she ever say anything mean?..or anything helpful that will improve the performers?^_^..i don't know.

Oh, and kara..i played the 2nd movement the Rondo. I played the 1st movement last year in a recital. I liked the 1st movement it was nice and pretty^_^. 2nd movement is exciting too. BUT i never want to see the Rondo piece again.. time for something new!

HEY! do you guys have any suggestions for a solo i should do? i have a recital coming up and i need a song. I have a couple of months to practice..so any GOOD solos? My strenghs are technique..and my tone on the upper register..umm my 1st octave register isn't that great..but what ever solo is good. TELL ME PLZ! i have NO CLUE what i want to do.

<Added>

HMM...i'm thinking of the flight of the bumblebee. That's sounds REALLY exciting. But the style of the music doesn't change throughout the music..does it? i heard a small section..and saw a small section of it too so..i don't know. That's one of my options right now. hmm..i like classical music..i played a music from teleman last year. hmm..suggestions?

one can be very critical, correctly so, without being mean

Yea.. but that depends on the person. You could take a comment the wrong way and say it's mean because it's makes you look bad. Some ppl take comments and learn from it(and not get offended too). You are right though, you could be critical without being mean. BUT sometimes ppl don't UNDERSTAND correctly. I was told to do something about my playing BILLIONS of times..i keep on hearing it but never understood it. Until this person..said it to me in a VERY HONEST CRITICAL way. I wasn't offended...because IT"S THE TRUTH.
Sry, i'm probably not making sense..^_^

I don't know why ppl make fun of simon. I bet he's a real nice guy, and he doesn't lie about ppl's singing. He speaks his mind=)

let me relate a story, I have a student currently that wants to go into music, she is 19, I am trying to tell her in the nicest way possible that I don't believe that she has the talent nor the drive to make it in music, but I would NEVER resort to reducing her to tears with harmful words, ever, it is hard enough for me to have to look her in the eye and give her my honest assesment, it hurts me to have to do it...

With that i story i agree, but not in ALL situations is that true. I know ppl who are really sensitive..even though you are trying to be very critical and nice...hmm..i think ppl could take it the wrong way. Simon doesn't always try to say judgements in a mean way... I thought it wasn't mean, but some ppl did.
I'm just trying to say not in all situations can you be very critical but not say it in a mean way. I don't mean like SHOUT at that person way...
I just think in SOME times you just had to be dead honest. It depends on the person to be offended. But you know what? being TOO honest sometimes..ummm..could sound mean.

WOW..did i just confuse myself more. ahhhh..hmmm, this is just my opinion folks...
ACTUALLY i have no clue what i'm saying..NEVER MIND. ERASE THAT...@__@can't think today

I am working on Taffanel's Andante Pastoral et Scherzettino. I love it. Well, I am re-working on it. I used to play it all the time til I got new pieces to play! I think the Andante Pastoral movement is helping me with my tone as well as technical runs with accidentals. The Scherzettino is all about the technical...with just a touch of lyrical in it to make it interesting to the listener. Good luck with that competition. I wish I would have done more competitions when I was in High School. They really didn't have any in my area though.

THe real judges are the audience..^_^thanks. That's true! Teleman suite in a minor, i think played that for my last solo competition. I remember that,..i LOVED that! it was like 6 minutes long..i always got exhausted after playing it over and over.

I'll look at the solos that dennis and patrick said. Cool, i'm really excited. Love looking at new solos

I find out about competition from my private flute teacher, if i didn't have her,..i don't know what i'll do!^^ She's well known in my area, so she gets all the info. Yup, i would of not cared of competitions if it wasn't for her.

I am trying to tell her in the nicest way possible that I don't believe that she has the talent nor the drive to make it in music,

. . .

You know, Rhonda Larson wasn't good enough for Julliard either, and look at her now. Just because YOU don't believe it doesn't mean she doesn't. She could blossom at any point. Maybe she does need the rough slap in the face to help her get the drive part going. :P I am not doubting your experience as a flutist or a teacher, but I think it is unfair of you to discourage something she loves.

As far as Simon goes, he is very nasty in how he words some of his responses. It's his CHARACTER, and by that I don't mean his normal personality. Randy is the balanced one, Paula is the cheerleader, and Simon is the tough as nails jerk. It's his role to be that way. Funny thing is, 90% of the time he is right, but if you spoke to a private student like that, you certainly wouldn't get the bills paid for long.

dotted eight note, I also didnt get into some of the top schools and I have done fine. This student, however, is not even close to getting there, I have encouraged her to be an educator, but she is extremely timid, I have tried to build her up, but sometimes one has to tell a student what they feel is the truth, the rest is up to her...

I don't think Simon thinks before he says something,..that's true for sometimes(because it's mean,..he should of said it in a nice way..hmm) But he's just dead honest. Of course no one's always right or perfect. But i don't think he's a nasty judge..nope. Sure some honest comments are mean...that's life^^
