Hey everyone! I have an offset G open hole yamaha. I was reading previous posts and I believe it was Bilbo made a comment how offset G on the flute can hinder stability. I got an offset G on my flute because the inline I felt I was reaching over to far and the offset G is more comfortable but noticed lately having difficulty holding my flute with my left index finger. If I have to go between notes like a B to high D I have a hard time keeping my fingers aligned. I had a finger rest for it but I just thought it got in the way. Well I tried it again keeping in mind stability maybe being an issue. It's a black peice inserted where my L index finger rests and WOW it totally helps with stability. Now my notes are so much cleaner. I was having trouble with the upper register on chromatic scale and now I can play it really clean and to boot I must have not been covering my tone holes well because now my higher notes that use the offset G key are clearer sound and not as airy. I still don't like my inline G flute but using the finger rest is so much more comfortable and stable! Thanks for you comments bilbo!!! There's also a R thumb peice but the L index finger is really helping me out! <Added>Also my fingers are really long which can reach an inline G fine but I felt more comfortable with the offset, but the finger rest says for large hands on the box and can be obtained at music stores. <Added>Here it is it's great. I tried it just because playing a while a vein starts popping in the area but stopped using it because if felt bulky. However now understand my flute sliding there it helps so much:

<Added>The amazon.com appears smaller, the one I have says for large hands on the box.

Bo peps work well for some people, but just a bit of a warning - they can scratch your flute when you put it on and take it off! If you don't mind, then it's not a big deal, but for those of us who like our flutes to be perfect and pristine, beware!

Yea I should have mentioned that! I put it on then off when I first got it, felt bulky then kind of rubbed in some scratches that was better after using a polishing rag. All that made me not want to use it. I'm just leaving the finger rest in place and if I take it off again just be careful.
