Dear AndrewB,
Really hope that you feel better soon.
hmmm...I wonder what type of eye surgery is affected by practicing. Maybe the doc thinks that you are moving your eyes around a lot when you are playing.
Seems to me that you could prectice your embouchure studies in the dark with your eyes closed.

Ouch! Eye surgery? I hope you get better really soon! (compared to wanting you to get better after long, slow, drawn out agony... which I don't!) I would suppose that it would hurt to play because of the pressure. Well, it would always be a good thing to learn to play the piano or something where you don't have to blow air! Or, work on fingerings; it's a bit confusing if there is no noise coming out of the instrument, but it does help your fingers!

If you had a retina surgery, you should care a lot during the first couple of weeks, no sudden head movements and the like. And no swimming pool head-in diving, that's for the rest of the life...

But I have had that surgery 10 years ago (with silicone band and everything) and I'm perfectly OK.

Just be patient...
