I really can't recommend anything until I know how long you have been playing and what you are looking for. Is there any style of music or any favorite composer or something for the rest of the forum to narrow the songs down? There are thousands of possible solos...

Here are some solos I have played or enjoy that I enjoyed:

Easy/Medium:

Andalouse
Bach Sonata IV
Bach Sonata V

Difficult:

Poem
Cantabile et Presto
Carnival of Venice

Meh, those are just a few I can think of off of the top of my head. If you could possibly list what you have played recently, it would honestly give us a better clue to your skill level, and we would be able to recommend something for you.

A few of my favorites have been:

Polonaise and Badinerie by Bach

Menuet and Spirit Dance by Gluck

Siciliana and Giga by Handel

Bergamask by Paul Koepke

Those all are songs out of the Rubank Concert and Contest Collection. I performed these a few years ago for a concert and I know that they are favorites with judges if this is a judged contest... I wish you the best of luck.

You could do the ever popular Hindemith Sonata. Really anything Bach would work.

"Syrinx" by Debussy is pretty much a default piece for me in those sort of situations, so that one might work. If you need a piece with accompaniment, then "Concertino" by Cecile Chaminade is pretty sweet, and so are any of the Mozart Concerti (is concerti plural for concerto?). Good luck, and have fun!

I wonder how many of the average high school students in the US can actually play Charmine's Concertino? I think that the faster parts can be very tricky especially when playing with an accompanist.

Exactly! I could say that I played it in High School (which I didn't because I didn't even know that piece yet) and that doesn't mean it wasn't a mess either. Sure, I can play Ibert's Concerto, but I grantee you wouldn't want to hear it! Lol! I would have to really work on that one!

Darn spell checker!! That is GUARANTEE. Sorry.

I played the Chaminade concertino in high school, but not as a piece to play for competitions, (just learned it in my lessons. It was one of those pieces that my teacher said was too over played.

Taffanel did a really pretty arrangement of Massenet's "Meditation" from Thais. Not horribly technical but very lyric and a great way to show off all of those colors. Granted, the piano part is a transcription. But methinks it still works well.

I'm also a fan of pretty much anything Quantz. Crowd-wowers that are fairly easy to put together if you've spent enough time working through arpeggios and etudes.
