Hi,

I'm "swimming" for 3 weeks by now, searching for the right flute for me.
Considering my budget's limits, I think about a Miyazawa HM Boston Classic GS (gold-silver alloy) type 2 or a Haynes HM.
What do you think about these 2 flutes?..in terms of sound colour and action (mech part - quick response)

Thanks!:-)

when you say Haynes, you are talking about a company that has been around for more than 100 years.

I have a Haynes from 1951, which I adore, but I would probably not buy a Haynes from the late 70's.

Try them, see which one you like

Well they are very different flutes. Haynes is not exactly the same company it was anymore. Miyazawa is in an innovation period of growth.

You've got to try both to see what you like. I would seriously try each flute with a selection of headjoints.

For miyazawa, that means tonal variation and response that you are looking for. For haynes, that means they've got some lousy headjoints lately. Make sure you try it with a good one. If you don't like the haynes at first, reserve judgement until you try it with a different head, even of the supposed "same" cut.

Both will feel very different in the hands. Miyazawa mechanics can feel very light as setup compared to the haynes, but remember than anything can be setup and customized to your liking.

Both mechanisms are fine.

Good luck on your choice.

I have tried both brands of flutes, but not those particular models. They were very different, but both very nice. I think that I liked the action a bit more on the Miya. When you get up into that caliber of instrument, they all are quite nice.

Try as many brands, models and headjoints as you can and take your time with it.

Hello,

Thank you for your opinions and advices.

I was thinking to get a Modern Cooper headjoint later for Haynes. Even for the Miyazawa.
Here where I am, unfortunately I can't try any of these instruments...So it's a "blind" choice I have to make..
Thank you again,
:-)
