Our senior band went on a band trip last week to Atlanta georgia... it was awesome! holy cow the humidity definitely affected our playing but other than that it was amazing!! At the clinic at georgia state university the clinition said i was one of the most in tune highschool piccolos he's ever heard :D... so my head was a little bigger for the rest of the day... anyways the trip was going well and our band went to stone mountain park.. very cool.. a bunch of us decided to play in this kids treehouse game thing, and when i was walking down the rope swing ramp my foot got caught and i fell... and broke my arm!! so now i cant play for three weeks!!! argh! lol... has anyone broken their arm before who can tell me how hard it is to recover?

Sorry about your accident.

I broke mine when I was a kid and it healed fast and without consequences.

But it could be more serious or not, depending on what bone(s) you broke. In mine case it was the clavicle, this was not serious.

If it is a major bone, my suggestion is follow the doctors indications and not yield to the temptation of taking the plaster off before due time!.

You are lucky because it's not summer (no heat to make you nuts with the plaster) and the piccolo is the lightest instrument I can think of!

I've broke both of my arms in the summer between fourth and fifth grade. I broke my right arm and about a week and a half after I got my cast taken off I broke my left arm. But my arms healed pretty quickly and it wasn't too big of a deal. (except for the fact that I couldn't go swimming). Luckily I haven't broken anything since 7th grade (broke my foot.) Now that I've said this, I'm probably going to break another bone in the next few days.

Oh, that really sucks! Sorry to hear that. I have never broken my arm, just my ankle in three different places. I think that I was layed up for over 3 months with that one and it left me pretty much cripled. Good thing I can sit on the job.

OUCH!!! Sorry about that! I have never broken a bone, which is amazing because I work with horses and stuff... I did mess up my ankle pretty badly a few years ago in sports and I still have to wrap it up before I march, but I couldn't imagine breaking my arm!!! It makes me cringe to think of a flute player and a busted arm!
That is cool that you were recognized, though, right? I wish you a speedy recovery. If you are bored, you can always help out the band by doing organization stuff and work with the marching band until you get better! Or, if you are not really into that stuff, it would give you a great chance to read! Get a good book!
(I noticed your name, Tinuviel; I love Tolkien! Luthien is one of my favorite characters in all of his work!)

Thanks! I think they only mention her name once EVER in any book... that's sad. LOTR is great! I am glad that you are on your way to recovery! I hope you get some practice in; just don't work yourself too hard, okay? Don't mess anything up that could hurt your chances of playing well later!
Best of luck!

you should read the simmarilion or unfinished tales, it talks about all the obsolete characters in there, including her. those books are amazing... read sim. first

So far, I have read everything of Tolkiens, except the full set of lost stories. The Simillarion (sp?) is my favorite, though, next to the original trilogy... Ironically, its one of the few I don't own yet! Gah...
Its really fun to imagine music along with the scenes in the Simillarion, though, i think... Everything is so epic and I always think of timpani and trumpet and lots of low brass when I read anything by Tolkein! I am not a good composer myself, but I am a soundtrack nerd and it's great to piece together other movie soundtracks with the books (any book, really...)

I see how they could try and it would take a long time, but, I think it would be possible! It would have to be a great director and take some of the best people in the world in the film business to pull it off, but it could be done! Anything is possible!
Yeah, the first chapter is great! How beautiful, a world created by music, by song and dream. How dreadful, though, that the world can harbor such evil because of a discord among musicians and the music itself! Very beautiful indeed!

(I love soundtracks!)
