hey guys i was just reading sum posts and was thinking ..... wat would us musicians do if we didnt play an instrument or at least the flute lol....

I imagine if I didn't play an instrument I would probably have most of the 8 books I purchased around Christmas read. I love reading and at one point I went through a novel a week. I have slacked off a bit over the last year though, and I have only finished 6 books since Christmas. I am reading another one now, so I guess I have 1.5 to go

I couldn't live very happily, I think. I love conducting, and I would conduct other people who play an instrument, but I wouldn't be insanely happy if thats all I did and couldn't play....
I would probably be someone I wouldn't want to be if I couldn't play...

I went the other way really. I've always sung a lot, and had a good voice. Unfortunately, due to my developing asthma, I can't hold a note to save my life. It's very frustrating. (It's not the asthma itself, that just influences how much air I've got, but the meds contain steroids which mess with the vocal chords and make them unsteady. Might make an interesting topic in the Voice forum I guess.) Anyway, it's one of the reasons I took up flute playing, with the meds my air is okay (in fact flute playing is great therapy), and I don't need my now dodgy vocal chords to do it. Flute is probably the closest you can get to voice except perhaps for whistling, which is what I do when I can't play flute. Music has to come out somehow I suppose...
Failing that, I'll read a book,play a PC game, study, and avoid television as much as I can.

Oh, and I consume music of course, concerts, CDs, whatever, more or less constantly.

Another question,

What instrument would you play if not the flute?

FOr me, I like the medium rage instruments for their mellow character and easy response.... The Cello or the Bassoon. They are a respite from the more shrill upper regieter of the flute.

Alas, on the bottom of my list would be the trumpet ....just above the saxophone and the accordion. ~not to affend any people who play any of those instruments. Just a personal preference...

Other instruments? Piano, a decent one, not some cheap keyboard, or else one of the other woodwinds, maybe clarinet or sax (I dabbled a bit in high-school). Violin or cello might be nice, but I've always disliked the feel (not the sound) of stringed instruments.

pro swimmer? cool..i love swiming, but i can't swim to save my life:D..i failed the swim test in my school. YuP..pretty sad
I dunno..i would probably do something with art..because somehow i'm naturally talented in art. And, maybe a pro tennis player like someone else said here!..(love tennis)

I'd probably be a coroner or a paleobotanist...but those are both hard jobs to get.
If I played another instrument, it would definitely be french horn. It would HAVE to be a wind instrument, regardless. I just can't get into learning stringed or keyed instruments.

If I didn't play flute, I'm not sure if I'd even be alive still since the flute playing has helped with lung capacity and elasticity (asthma).
But, I think I would be doing what I do now, Speech/Language Pathologist, wife and Mom (reverse order of importance).
If I played another instrument, it would probably be cello, I think it is beautiful. I do like piano also (but I have such short fingers).
