Be positive! Think about the reasons that might have made you stress. Is it because you don't like the music? or is it the pressure that are caused by the people around you?

thanks oh and school girl i would just adress it as a problem the whole section has like ask the teacher for the flutes to go over that part again and then maybe he will notice and say something

i am not sure what it is i think is a lot of things mixed in like people not careing the fact that i get dizzy ( help i get dizzy when playing) the negitive all mixed in one also might be the music although i like some of it

Flute Girl, I'm not a very good flutist and I've little experience, but I heard from somewhere that getting dizzy while playing is a sign that you may not be blowing into your flute correctly. I would ask someone more experienced on this forum though before you go by what I say.

As for being stressed out during band, the same thing happens to me during orchestra. Nearly all of the people in my orchestra don't even like playing, it seems. And they refuse to get their instruments out for practice.. And my teacher does nothing about it. Which aggrivates me a lot.

I know what you mean..there's a lot of immature ppl in my school. I mean i might look like a immature person on the outside..but i'm a VERY mature person. i have a lot of self-control, and i know my limits..

Try having a band class that actually chased a director away! That was the perfect example of everything a band should NOT do... I could have made a documentary about the immaturity levels in high school students over the course of a year... I just hope this next director doesn't cry.

When you get into honor bands and other groups of musicians that actually are really serious about music and actually respect what is going on and who is in charge, you come back to your own band and realize how much better things could be if you would just be able to kick all the immature people out of band. But, then, if you did, you would only have a few people left who REALLY cared, and that isn't a band at all.

It's sad, kind of. The musicians who put their hearts into it have to put up with the jerks in order to have a band. I know some schools that will destroy what is left of their music program and refuse to fund music any longer if numbers decrease or if too many people complain about things. That is just something less than legal, I think!

Ya so i had Band today so the band teacher let us out early and i was sitting there talking to my chorus teacher in the next room. well my band teacher comes in and he starts to talk to me about my thinking about quiting next year and soon it turned out that the two were having a little intervention with me trying to preassure me into playing next year it made me sooooo mad!!!!! he even got so low to bribe me!!!!!! he knows that i love playing the piccolo and he is all i will let you bring the piccolo home over the summer if you promise to play and he is like if you dont i will give it to so an so i just dont know what i am to doi am stuck in between my feelings and what is expected of me by my teachers and they are just adding all this unneed pressure to me to try and get me to play and i am probably rambleing lol it is just like aaaaaaaa and i would ask for help from my friends at the school but how d o they know what i am going through right and then the ones in band are bias grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i am so sick of this!

Do what your heart is telling you to do; if you love to play and your director wants you to stay in band, see what you can do about what is making you quit band!

I know it sounds corny, but it was the only thing I could do when I quit band... believe me, you might miss it very much!!!!

Remember, it's the end of the school year and everything seems overwhelming. I myself felt so overwhelmed the other day I considered quitting work (I work in schools), taking my youngest out of school and homeschooling her!!! I wanted to move up to a log cabin in the mountains and just forget all the crap!!

But, school will soon be out, summer will be here, and you will renew and regenerate. Use the summer to play the way you enjoy.

You should appreciate that your director has such high regard for you. Take it as a compliment rather than an attack. The change in thought will help mellow you out!

Keep your options open. You'll find that even minor changes in band membership, or some maturation of some other band members will make all the difference for you next year. Your stress may just melt away!!

thank you kippsix will try to think of it that way. SOmetimes knowing that he thinks i am good adds more pressure on to me because he expects moreout of me then some of the others ans sometimesi t is hard to live up to what i think his expictations are. i know that i probably will regeret not joining next yerar but in the begging of this year i also wanted to quit. but mom would not let me. she also tould me that if i start band next year i have to finish it wich does not help because it is like if i try it and i still get stressed out there is no way for me to back out of it........
