YES, i know how it feels like. when i try out for something, and i work REALLY REALLY hard, and i'm really determined...i usually make it.
but i didn't make it in our school's musical orchestra pit. well, there was only one other freshman trying out..and the flutes trying out were all-state members, so i knew it was impossible. they beat me fair and square.
i know what you mean, i got upset. REAL upset..it's been a while i didn't make something in..or didn't get i wanted for band. (i know weird)
AND the other freshman made it in..well, he's INCREDIBLE.

i've learned my lesson though,..i was upset.and like you...i couldn't say congrats. i didn't say anything. but..i was over it the next day

BUT ya know what? i figured that even auditioning for the orchestra pit was HUGE. i mean there was no other freshman and sophmore who tried out..except a few. I was proud i even had the guts to try out. ^_^...

Just remember the story I sent to you, Toni. If you want it bad enough, if you are willing to go through Hades and back, you will get it! I tried for years and now I got my wish. You will get yours, too, if you try hard enough! Don't ever give up because you just might catch the lucky star that falls from the sky... It hurts and you cry and you scream and you feel hopeless when you don't get it, but it feels all the better when you find out you got what you wanted because you worked so hard for it!

I have this philosophy; I am not the best but I am not the worst. So, sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. In music, as well as in most activities it is very hard to be number one, and even if you are, you may not get the recognition you deserve.

I think all musicians have huge and fragile egos- sorry to hear things didn't go well, but I hope you do better in the future.

I never really noticed it until you said it, Mrs. Carbohydrates... musicians really do have huge and fragile egos... most of them, anyhow. I can say that for myself! I think your outlook on it is really nice, jose luis; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Failure is unavoidable in life...
(Right now, schoolgirl, I am eating cold pizza. ^_^ I am sure it is not as good as the pizza Joe and Patrick are always talking about, but I bet there is not much else that IS better than cold pizza! I hope you got some pizza...)

Ooh..i really want some GOOD delicous pizza. i bought pizza the other week at school..and EWWWWW, HOW GROSS!! it was "homemade"..and it was just gross. the pizza was chUNKy..and the cheese wasn't soft..(hard!). *sigh*..heehee..and i still had to eat it..i mean i can't refund!
i guess i'm very unlucky when buying food. Now, everytime i look at pizza it gives me chills..:D

I think most young musicians with talent get used to being big fish in small ponds and when they progress and come up against competition and discover that they're NOT as good as they thought they were it's a huge disaster for them. I know it was for me anyway! But it's still a useful lesson to learn.

Yes..i agree with that. failure is sure unavoidable in life. i felt like a big fish in a small pond..but now? wow, now 'welcome to the music world'..THere're some unfair judges out in the world..
and yes..the amazing musicians too

anyway, one thing you have to remember if you want ANY success in the music world is that

WINNERS NEVER QUIT, AND QUITTERS NEVER WIN
