Lera,

I tried to visit your group but you have designed too many limitations (IMO) that I gave up. Other groups allow people to browse what's going on, before registering.

But you request the potential visitor to write the owner and explain why one is interested in visiting it, to allow hin/her to register.

Well, I did not know what to answer if I cannot visit the place. I'm afraid this pre-requisite might be deterring many other people to join your site.

Could you possibly reconsider this entrance barrier? What's the need for it?

Hmm... I need to catch up on my reading and find out what the fuss is about.

If you're all still around http://www.woodwind.org has added a flute board and it is actively moderated, though being relatively new there aren't too many people there. You can however glance at the page and see when new posts occured without going in all the way (which is nice) and the search function which spans all their boards is amazing.

Woodwind.org is more known for their clarinet forums which are unlike any other forum for the sheer amount of people and the interactive moderating that you see day to day. They also have a quaint oboe forum that used to be a bit hidden till recently as well.

Yahoo groups aren't quite... forumy. Flutenet for instance is a huge flute group, but unmanageable unless you choose to get e-mails and filter them to folders in your mail reader.

Your are quite right, Stephen.

The format of Yahoo Forum is far from being confortable. It is difficult to follow the threads in its internal order and in general to manage the contents.

I one chooses the email feature to be kept informed, one can be flooded by Emails i fthe Forum is relatively active.

I do not like that Forum format at all.

In this aspect, 8notes Forum is far superior and very friendly for the user.

Micron, I fully agree with you, concerning the acceptance of kids. I really enjoy their posts and participation. I think they normally bring here (and everywhere) the freshness we sometimes lack. ANs usually there questions are very fertile and develop into good and interesting threads.

But there is no risks of having them excluded in anyway at this Forum, so we do not need to worry about that.

Now, all the drama and personal attacks we have seen in this Forum are not a nice example for the younger, but these days there is a wide acceptance about exposing kids and teenagers to the crudity of real life, particular in TV and video games. So, the rather moderate problems and quarreling that sometimes occur here would not be more harmful than, say, watching any TV series or even comics.

But I think that anybody has the right to reserve a space (also a virtual space like a Forum) and allow there only those you want to be. I think that's the case of Dennis and his space "for adults only". I would not consider that as selfish, it's a right you, me and everybody else have.

Concerning Sir Galdway's site, I would say that it is not for "everybody". Me for example, I have not dared to post there and dunno if I ever will do. It also suffers from the format problems of all Yahoo groups. It is hellish difficult to follow a thread, find out how it originated and understand what's going on!

Yes, i know! I don't like the format of yahoo's forums. Very hard to get around. Unlike 8notes!..very easy^_^
Ooh, acceptance of kids i don't think it's always the "kids" that cause trouble. It's older ppl too sometimes! Not saying you guys though Saying i met a lot of strange adults on the internet..yea.
TROUBLE!!

I really don't understand the point of leaving here. It's not like there's a fuss all the time. I could just name 2..the whole time i've been here!i don't think that's really bad at all.

I agree with many of the points you all have already posted.
I am a fairly active participant (though I don't necessarily post on all threads), but I don't really see what the fuss was all about. I did not feel that there was a big problem! Maybe I'm oblivious.

I enjoy the "young ones", and I also enjoy those who have so much more expertise/experience in the various areas. I learn from both.

When I don't particularly like a subject or the interactions or whatever, I just head off to another forum I read, or get off the computer altogether and get some real work done!!

This forum is anonymous! No one can "attack" me. But, maybe others have had different experiences. I have made use of the "report this post" button and have gotten results from the mods.

This forum is fine by me and I'm staying.
