Hey, has anybody tried the Aurumite flutes by powell? I'm considering getting one for my next flute. Obviously i'm going to try one out before i purchase it, but i'm just wondering if anybody has had any experience with these type of flutes.

I'm thinking about getting a 9k one, which has 9k rose gold on the outside, and sterling silver on the inside. With a solid 9k rose gold lip plate with silver riser. I'm going to try one, i'm just wondering if anybody has played one or has one.

If so, is it true that the properties of both silver and gold come through? (light and dark sounds?)
Tell me what they're like ! =)
Thanks

depends on you, if you have a good centered tone, then try it, I don't know about Powells being made now, if I had a choice, I would go for an older powell and then try a different headjoint if you want a different color

Syrinx, is that recording of Bozza on your profile page you playing? To answer your question, I have play tested an Aurumite Powell, but it sounded kind of weird to me and I much prefer the silver.

Thanks for the input, i think i'll just have to try it out, and yes, that's my recording of Image that i did for Regional Orchestra auditions. However i was lucky enough to record that at my schools auditorium stage- so the acoustics were great. That's a great piece by the way.

my first flute teacher had one. before i bought my flute i played on hers more than most 8th graders should play on their teachers prized flutes. i remember that i liked hers alot, but then again i had a piece of crap. i look back and i compare and contrast what i have now to what she had (i have a solid silver muramatsu) and i would keep choosing my muramtsu over her aurumite powell. but its all a matter of preference so you decide what you like. hope that helped.

Yeah, that does, thank you!
Right now i have a Sonare flute..blahhhh. The powell headjoint is nice, but the mechanism sucks..and is always breaking/leaking. It's sterling silver..however i'm not really pleased with it..i need something that i can rely on..and something i don't have to have constantly in the shop..haha.

Holy #$&%$^%&$%^$!!!!! How old are you Syrinx?!!!! That recording is amazing! Are you serious? That is really you? That sounds better then some pro players that I have heard. No kidding! You have talent. I don't think you need to waist your time going to college, you already have it.

*completley embarassed*
yeah..that's me. But believe me, it's not that great.. and just because i can play one piece well doesn't mean that i should skip college and become a pro..heehee. There's a lot more to playing than just one piece.. But thank you i appreciate the comments everyone, but you don't have to listen to it/comment, i just figured since that mp3 thing is there, then i might as well use it. I'm 15, to answer your other question. :-/ Wow, i'm embarassed now..

Syrinx, you are indeed talented. That was certainly quite an audition piece. Hope it won you something.

I've tried the Aurumites, and I can't say that I liked them. The response was slow, and I had trouble playing with what I consider an acceptable tone. That's just one flutist's experience though (and it jives with my experience of other silver and gold Powells). Just as with every other make out there, there are going to be some people who swear by them, and others who can't believe the company can move them. The only solution is to try them out. And try not to get your head set on something efore even trying it. That will make you draw towards that particular instrument in testing, even if it's not the best match for you.

From the sound of it, you're going to be able to make just about any flute work for you. I'd personally suggest ignoring the precious metal marketing gimmicks (such as aurumite) and spending the extra money on a headjoint upgrade for your new flute (unless, of course, you happen to like the factory head).

As far as brands, it's hard to go wrong with anything made in Japan or Boston. As several others have pointed out, it's all a matter of individuality. I, personally, prefer my Powell over my former Muramatsu a million times over.

Thanks to the both of you,
I will definitley be trying some out, instead of getting fixed on a certain one without trying it yet. I thought about getting a headjoint upgrade, but the real problem with my flute now is the mechanism, but i will take your advice in the future when trying out new flutes.
Thanks again for everyone's comments!
