Hey everyone,
has anybody played the "Carmen Fantasie" arranged by Galway? well not arranged, more like edited. I FINALLY got my music in the mail for it today, and it's REALLY cool. I suggest you all check it out..or at least a recording of it. It's so beautiful..tons of awesome variations as well. Just thought i'd spread the word of a great piece!!

Yup...I've played it. Same edition, even. It's a great piece, deserving of it's spot as standard repertoire, IMHO.

And you guys are in high school? Wow, I didn't study this one until I was in college. It never ceases to amaze me what high school students are expected to play these days - and I really haven't been out of high school long.

I'm now a junior in High School. It's not really expected that we learn this stuff...my teacher is just really challenging and suggests tough solos to work on, but it pays off. It's a really hard piece, by posting by no means am i saying i can play it very well..hehe, i'm working on it..but it's a lovely piece that everyone should learn.

I don't think very many high schoolers are expected to learn this stuff. I picked it up because it was part of me building my repertoire, but I know of only a few other players in the county who could play it at a respectable level. I haven't finished cleaning it (but then I've only had this particular piece a month and a half or so), but I'd say this piece is very attainable for advanced high school players.

I played this piece back in high school (that was a few years ago) and I liked it a lot. If you like this piece I also suggest ordering the flute arrangement of Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs)by Sarasate (available at fluteworld.com. It's originally for violin for it is sooooooo much fun to play.
Anyways, Syrinx I'm glad that you are enjoying your new music!

I love this piece.
From what I understand, Paula Robison brought this piece from obscurity into the standard repertoire. In any case, listening to a recording of her playing it is a must.

Fluteworld.com has a huge selection of flute music (and they'll try to find whatever you need if they don't have it), so it's a good place to look for any piece you might want. I know for a fact that they have Carmen Fantasie available.
