my teacher brought it out once. she told me i should play it. but i dont have the resources to go out and buy music. i should, considering i live fairly close to flute world. but money has alot to do with what music i have (or dont have, rather). and since i just broke both flutes (one is in the shop and the other has to go in before i leave) im sure ill be in the financial hole for a while.

and im also going to be a junior in high school. i dont think its rather absurd (or whatever youre saying about it) for high schoolers to be playing hard music. its just what level you are at with your music. its slightly redundant to work on something with the difficulty of hot cross buns when you could be playing something with more difficulty, both technically and dynamically. but then again... oh geez. ignore what i say. all thats important is that if its at the level one plays, he/she should play it.

I've never heard of this arrangement before, but sounds like I should go check out it out! Is it the same as the arrangement by Francois Borne, edited by A.Ephross? I've tried it a few years back, and it is a most wonderful piece!

Ok zygotes, I didn't mean to create an uproar. I never implied absurity, simply astonishment. You all should be flattered, not offended.

No offense coming from my direction Tim....I understand what you said. But Dotamatrix1984, it is the same piece, but a different edition. Rampal, for example edited many flute pieces in his time, and Galway does the same with some of his favorites, adding his own interpretation or variation of the original piece. It is still the Carmen Fantasie by Borne, but is edited by A. Ephross.

I just did the Carmen Fantasy in Taiwan arr .by RObert STallman, INternational Edition, which I like the best, but they are all essentially the same

Just a word of advice, practice this piece out of order, that way you don't get surprised or tired when you get to the difficult ending

I have the Stallman edition as well.

Patrick, do you play the "Low B version" cadenzas or not? My flute has a C foot, but I don't like the low B versions when I have used a B-foot flute- they just don't seem to flow as well. Maybe that's due to listening to Paula Robison, who doesn't use them either, although I don't know whose edit she is reading.
The program notes do say that Francois Borne invented the split E mechanism-explains why it is hard to play on my split-E-less flute after the split-E flute!
Now all I need is a tremendously talented accompanist. I have my Grandmother's Steinway Grand in my living room and my husband plays - about once every 6 months. Bummer.
