I had 2 students who played a simba flute Lera, one of them fell to pieces within a couple of months, and the other one is absolutely fine and the student is still playing it. I think with chinese flutes it's a bit of a lottery, you just don't know how long they're going to last. I hope you got a good one x

<Added>

that is, the flute fell to pieces, not the student lolololol

You say it needs breaking in....Is it wood then?

Well then that's a positive! Of course, we know that not all wooden instruments are high quality, but the chances improve. Does the clarinet have a brand name, Lera?

I would trust the add. Presumably it is from Simba (or whatever corporation owns Simba), and they are more likely to know about the clarinet than the music store. Music stores commonly employ people who don't necessarily have any real expertise with instruments other than their own. Could be that they too were deceived by the faux wood grain.

Lera it is not a wood clarinet. It says it is resonant which is a a form of plastic right in the add. When it says wood grain, it is resonite brushed to look like wood but is not wood.

Professional though? Hmm... me thinks not.

Should that be "resonant ABS which is a form of plastic..." Kara? I've just never heard of resonant as an alias for plastic...

Right you are Flutist06, I was confusing it with composite. Good catch. My apologies.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.
ABS is the type of composite material and it is put together in such a way as to resemble wood grain. ABS has been developed to mimic the characteristics of resonant tone woods.

No apologies needed...I just thought I'd ask for clarity's sake.

Lera. Regardless of the quality of the two instruments, I think you got a good deal there at $50! I would not generally expect any good quality instruments with this price. Enjoy yourself.

Alieannie, if I'm not much mistaken, "ABS" stands for "Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene", and is indeed a plastic, not a rubber.
