hi everyone,
Once I get rich enough I plan to upgrade my flute. I 've been thinking Miyazawa for the qaulity and price, but I don't know too much about them or a whole lot about any brand for that matter. So I was wondering if I could get your opinions on what flutes have the best quality for the price. After having a job for quite a while and some kissing up to my grandparents and parents I plan to have a price range of around $3,000---hopefully I'll have that much money (sorry car but you'll have to wait)
Thanks <3

In this price range, I really like the Sankyo etudes (Model 201)

Altus, Miyazawa and others make flutes in this price range, but the Sankyo is a really sturdy flute. You can be a little rough with it and they hold up really well. If you what a slightly more delicate flute, Altus or Miyazawas are great.

It's personal preference. There are a lot of flutes out there in the under 3K range. Try as many as you can.

I always am a fan of (well maintained) used flutes, because you let the original purchaser take the price hit, and walk away with a higher quality instrument than you would have gotten had you bought new. You might consider going down this route, as an instrument that has been taken care of properly will play just as well used as new. Joe, is of course, quite right about it being personal preference, and that you need to play as many flutes as possible to see what you like. I'll just give you a list of reputable makers that have models that can be had for under 3K (some will need to be found used to meet this qualification):

Muramatsu
Yamaha
Haynes (Amadeus)
Gemeinhardt (Brio)
Powell (Sonare)
DiMedici
Pearl
Emerson
Trevor James

Best of luck in the hunt!
