This is a cool thread! I never knew that there were different names like hemi's, demi's, and crochets. I thought that everyone used 1/4 notes, 1/2 notes and whole notes.

It's a unit of mass. You're only going to encounter it when you're doing ye olde F=Ma in physics, and working in English/US units (rather than metric).
