I'm working on Chaminade concertino Op107, A Sonata in E minor by handel, a few studies and i have 11 pieces for band to do; Flute Choir, Concert Band and Woodwind.

I have so much to do...and I like it like that...sometimes.

Now that I have a break I have been able to get back into playing the flute again. I was working on and off Fantasy on themes from Bizet's Carmen some time ago and have picked that up again hoping to get that mastered. I love that piece! I have just gotten Bollings suite and am also working on that. That is a blast to play!

Wow Kara! That piece is really beautiful -and difficult, IMO.
Recently I listened to my teacher playing it between classes and I loved it.

It is a beautiful piece. I love playing it. As long as you start off really slow and gradually up the tempo little by little, it isn't as bad as it looks. Now getting the Presto up to speed and the double tounging meshed in it at the very end is the hard part. At least it is for me. This is coming from a person that took a whole year to get doubling tounging down. Ugh!

Working on LIFE right now lol. Actually I am not working on anything at the moment except getting my flute student ready for some auditions. She is in a magnet school for the arts, so she also has to play something difficult for solo and ensemble. She chose the Mozart Concerto in D. I couldn't believe it!

I don't know if most of you remember, but I was having a really hard time getting her to practice. I solved that problem. She received an open hole flute last year for Christmas. Since it was so close to audition time I didn't make her take the corks out. This summer, I confiscated her corks! It was truly amazing how much she improved in 2 weeks. LOL.

Just great! We've just started working Symphony Nr.5 by Claudio Santoro at the orchestra. For those who don't know this name, this is one of the greatest and most productive brazilian composers of the last century (passed in 1989), comparable to Heitor Villa-lobos.

I'm not working on anything on my own at the moment, just a few things with band, and Shostakovich's symphony no.5 with orchestra - I'm playing the piccolo part and it's giving me earache!

Well, now that I have time to respond...I am a college freshman. My lesson/practice list is:

1. Gaubert - Madrigal
2. Nielsen - The Fog is Lifting
3. Hindemith - Acht Stucke
4. Vivaldi - all Sonatas
5. Taff/Gaub - #4 Major and Minor Scales (basically the majors and minors done in every mode i.e. Dorian, Mixolydian, etc. with wonderful accidentals to confuse you)
6. Berbeguier - 18 etudes (all of which have to be memorized at the end of the school year along with all of myother repertoire)

On my own in addition:
1. Danzi - Concerto No. 2 in d - for Performance jury
2. Liebermann Concerto - for fun
3. Sonata Latino - for fun
4. Boehm - Grand Polonaise - for fun (and I finally got it up to 100 BPM after starting at 45 to practice it!!!)
5. Taff/Gaub - #1 Maj/dim pentatonic runs - to help with even fingering
6. Pentatonic scales - Sophomores learn these, and I want a head start
7. Octatonic scales - Sophomores also learn these, and i want even more of a head start.

I think that might be enough. No wonder I have no time and I am stressed all the time!!!!!!!

-Dennis
