That is a very cool thing you do for the kiddos Ladyx. What a neat hobby!

Pad mites...

Little bugs that feed on the felt. Usually you need to keep your flute in storage and not use it for that to happen.

Overhaul vs repad. The pricings given seem to indicate two different types of service. There is a repad which is for changing the pads (cleaning, oiling, regulation included of course). Then there is an overhaul, which is mostly considered repadding and mechanical rebuild. (much more expensive) Most flutes don't need an "overhaul" if they are getting maintenance on a regular basis (once a year) Little mechanical problems are done as you go avoiding the full blown expense of a complete rebuild.

JS and Straubs don't use felt, so you probably won't ever have pad bug problems with them.

Ladyx,
I received that woodlight headjoint yesterday. Bob sent me a Goncalvo alves wood one. I didn't have too long to play around with it just yet, but it has a very nice sound. I have trouble with wood heads though, as they make the flute top heavy. My flute is heavy enought as is. It is going to take some getting used to.
