I just had my first College Flute Studio Recital. After being delayed because of timing issues yesterday, and almost hyperventilating into an unsure oblivion...I finally played. Everything went well, except that my piano player was on the other side of the music room we were in. Why do people have studio recitals in rooms with all sorts of furniture that can't be moved? Anyway...I played a fairly simple piece (since that's all we play as freshmen at FSU). It was Madrigal by Gaubert. I got a standing ovation for what it's worth since there were only like 12 people in the audience.

I also have an audition coming up for the Gala Flute Recital. It's a recital in early December that allows anyone who passes the audition to play whatever they want. It doesn't have to be on your repertoire, but you have to play it at the audition and pass it to be in the show. I am playing the Muczynski Sonata. I decided that today after practicing through a bunch of pieces to decide what to play. I am only doing mvts 1 and 3 though. There is still a time limit so I can't do the whole thing like I wanted to. If I find I have extra time left...I will probably add one of the other mvts to fill the time. Ok...have a good day!

Congrats! I knew you would do well. So did you kick that other guys butt? lol!! I still say you need Kara there! **Grins**

So you aren't going to do the Katchatarian? That would be a good one to pull off. Too bad you don't have more time on the Muczynski piece, I really like the second movement.

Best of luck with it. TTYL

No...no Khachaturian. Unfortunately, my piano part is missing as I gave it to someone in Sarasota to learn so we could record it...and then I moved, and don't have his number anymore! I would love to do the second movement though! I just don't want to spend another 20 dollars on the piece yet! Maybe my school's library has a copy I can steal...HAHAH! They are picking people based on musicality, not technicality. So, doing either of the other movements of the Khachaturian moves me from musical to technical as they really don''t have much more substance to them besides all the black notes written all over the page!

I do like the 2nd movement, but I want to open with a Concerto-esque movement...that would be movement 1. Then I want to do a slower movement for the musical side...that's mvt 3. If I had an extra couple minutes...mvt 2...but if I had an extra 4 or so minutes...mvt 4. This way I could do a fast-slow-fast performance. I wouldn't do the movements out of order (I have a bad case of OCD), and putting all of that together with the Concerto-esque-ness, fast-slow...and time limit...that's what I have decided on. I am going to go check on the Khachaturian right now...I'll get back to you.

I have good news Kate! I am auditioning for the Gala Flute Recital on the Khachaturian now! I asked my teacher about it this week. I was wondering about the timing. There is a 10 minute audition time. On multi-movement pieces you can only do one movement, and it has to be less than 10 minutes. Well, the Khachaturian 2nd movement clocks in at right around 12:45!! LOL I have made a few redundancy cuts in the MINUTES long piano parts that don't have any flute going on. A friend lent me his copy of the piano part to use so I don't have to buy it right now. I think, however...I might buy the orchestral version and play the whole thing on some other recital or concert with a full orchestra! The new version of the 2nd movement is just under 10 minutes...LOL! Just wanted to let you know!!! P.S. I think it might be recorded, so I will get a copy and send you it when I get it.

flute, and other music, rep is like great literature, just because a group of amateurs do Shakespeare doesn't mean it will be good.

That's a great analogy, Patrick. I'm going to remember that!
