Probably an animist... or someone worried about their students not being able to reassemble the parts in the correct position...

If we had lived 150 years ago, I would have given a second thought to such a theory, as wood instruments are reputed to have their own character, dislike being left alone without vibrating (or even listening to music) and other peculiarities.

I know a first level violinist who has a Stradivarious (sp?). The instrument sleeps in a a basement, specially conditioned for temperature and humidity and with permanent recorded music sounding. It sounds weird, but it is a serious approach to keeping these ancient jewels in perfect state.
