I've noticed some pretty obvious discoloration on the part of my flute that slots into the main body (not sure of the technical terms) I've had it for 9 days and have neglected cleaning it, I must admit.

Its made by Crown, and i wanted to know is there anything i can do to remove this discolouration? I've tried using a cloth but that doesnt do anything.

I would do nothing, unless the flute doesn't work properly any more.

It does, but it looks horrible. All kinda brownish.

Its on the headjoint, the part that goes inside the actual flute but its not really seen because i need to pull it out for it to become a little more flat.

It think you have a silver plated headjoint. The tenon is not silver plated and so is copperish in color. If you really don't like the look you can find inexpensive silver plated nickel headjoints (tenon is nickel colored) or solid silver headjoints.

For instance this place has very inexpensive used plated headjoints, you may want to note that you don't want any brown tenons :

Try taking a little bit of rubbing alcohol and wipe it with a soft cloth. A silver polish cloth would most likely take it off, but I would not recommend polishing that part of your flute as it can cause more harm then good. I really recommend that you clean it after every time you are done playing it, this includes wiping off the tenons to keep them clean.
